Driving and (even worse) parking in Newport can be challenges in the summer, but we are somewhat off the usual tourist path but easy access whether you are coming over the Newport Bridge or the northern passage. If you know the island and are confident taking a more direct route, please feel free to do so.
If you ARE NOT using the Newport Bridge, you will want to come down Route 24 southbound which will eventually turn into West Main Road (Route 114). (Rocky Horror Picture Show folks will recognize the Island Cinemas and IHOP as they pass them.) At the intersection with Admiral Kalbfus Road at the light (where you will see a Domino's Pizza on your left), continue straight and the road becomes Broadway. About one mile past that intersection, on the right you will see the Newport Tokyo House.
To get to Route 24 from the Providence area, take I-95 to exit 20 onto I-195 eastbound. Cross into Massachusetts where the exit numbers restart at 1, and then take exit 7-A onto Route 24 southbound.
If you ARE using the Newport Bridge: After crossing the Newport Bridge, take the second (and last) exit onto Admiral Kalbfus Road (Route 138), and then at the light (where you will see Newport Grand in front of you) turn left onto Admiral Kalbfus Road eastbound. At the intersection with Broadway at the light (where you will see a Domino's Pizza ahead), turn right onto Broadway southbound. About one mile past that intersection, on the right you will see the Newport Tokyo House.
To get to the Newport Bridge from the Providence area, take I-95 southbound to exit 9 onto Route 4 southbound. Follow this to the end where it merges into US 1 southbound. Shortly after that merge, take the exit for Route 138 eastbound. Continue over the Jamestown Bridge to the Newport Bridge.
Please use the Google Map tool on the left to find the easist driving direction.
Free parking is always available.
